A structured 16-lesson journey from the fundamentals of the keyboard to advanced harmony and your own musical voice. Each lesson builds on the last — no gaps, no guesswork.
Lessons 1 – 4
Understanding the keyboard layout, identifying all 12 notes, tones and semitones. This is where everything begins — your map of the instrument.
Note positions, octave patterns, finding any note instantly. You will learn to navigate the keyboard with confidence and speed.
The major scale formula (W-W-H-W-W-W-H), building scales in any key. Scales are the DNA of music — once you know the formula, every key opens up.
Natural, harmonic, and melodic minor scale patterns. The minor scale brings emotion and depth — three variations, each with its own character.
Lessons 5 – 8
Building major chords from the scale, chord shapes across all keys. Your first step into harmony — three notes that change everything.
Minor chord construction, diminished chords, chord qualities. Understanding why chords sound the way they do — happy, sad, tense, resolved.
First and second inversions, smooth voice leading between chords. Inversions make your playing sound professional — no more jumping around the keyboard.
Fluid chord transitions, common progressions (I-IV-V-I). Putting it all together — you will play real chord progressions that sound like real music.
Lessons 9 – 12
Key relationships, navigating between keys, practical applications. The single most powerful diagram in music theory — and how to actually use it.
Major, minor, perfect intervals, interval ear training. The distance between two notes is the foundation of melody and harmony — you will learn to hear and name them.
Scale degree names, function in harmony, Roman numeral analysis. Tonic, dominant, subdominant — understanding why chords move the way they do.
Sharps, flats, identifying keys, transposition basics. Read any piece of sheet music and know instantly what key it is in and what notes to expect.
Lessons 13 – 16
Major 7th, minor 7th, dominant 7th — jazz and pop foundations. Add one note to a triad and the sound transforms from simple to sophisticated.
Rich harmonic vocabulary for expressive playing. These are the chords that make R&B, jazz, and neo-soul sound the way they do.
Sus2, sus4, augmented, diminished 7th — adding color and tension. These chords create movement and surprise, the secret ingredient in memorable music.
Chord progressions, song analysis, improvisation frameworks, and your personal style. Everything you have learned comes together — now you make music your own.
Your first lesson starts with the 12 notes. By lesson 16, you will be building extended chords, analysing songs, and developing your own voice at the piano.
